According to Goal.com....... Real Madrid vice-president Eduardo Fernandez de Blas has revealed the club's intention to appoint Rafael Benitez as coach, hailing him as one of the world's best.

Fernandez de Blas is reported as telling a meeting of a Madrid members' group: "Ancelotti is an absolute phenomenon - a gentleman whom I have great affection for, and I think everyone else at Real Madrid does too.

"Until three days ago he was the best trainer in the world, as two years ago it was Jose Mourinho, and from this week onwards it will be Rafa Benitez.
"I'm excited and looking forward to July 30 to see how the best players in the world work under an exceptional coach."
The executive added that, despite his sacking, Ancelotti's reputation has been boosted by his time in the Spanish capital.

Walcott: This is the best Arsenal squad for 10 years

According to Goal.com Walcott believes the current Arsenal squad is the best he has been part of in his 10 years at the club.

The Gunners are gearing up for their second consecutive FA Cup final, looking to become only the second team to retain the FA Cup twice, when they face Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Arsenal suffered their worst ever start to a Premier League season earlier this term, but a remarkable upturn in form since the turn of the year saw them claim third spot, and Walcott feels a title challenge is a must.

"Overall finishing third is a step up from last year, but as I've said before we need to be really challenging for that Premier League," Walcott told talkSPORT.

"Personally, I've been there 10 years and this is the best squad I've actually been involved in."

Walcott only recently returned from a long injury-induced absence and scored a hat-trick on the final day of the league season to give Arsene Wenger a timely reminder of his talents ahead of the Wembley showdown.

He added: "I've done my part. I just want to play and being given the opportunity at the weekend and I played pretty well."winger says the current side is the best he has been involved with ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final

Spain Charges Boko Haram Abubakar Shekau With Crimes Against Humanity

            boko_haram_imagek

Spain’s state prosecutor charged the leader of Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, with terrorism and crimes against humanity over a 2013 attack on a Nigerian town in which a Spanish nun was assaulted, court papers said.

Spain has pioneered the use of universal jurisdiction, the concept that crimes against humanity can be prosecuted across borders, in instances such as when a Spanish judge issued an arrest warrant for Chile’s Augusto Pinochet in London in 1998.

The Boko Haram case arises from a militant attack on the eastern Nigerian town of Ganye on March 22, 2013 in which at least 25 people were killed.

Court papers issued on Thursday said militants assaulted the nun, Maria Jesus Mayor, in Ganye before she was able to escape into hiding and was later rescued by Nigerian security services.
The court documents gave no details of the alleged incident involving the nun. The judge has asked for a study of Boko Haram from Interpol and will obtain a declaration from Mayor about the incident, according to the court papers.

For Spain to carry out universal jurisdiction, there must be a Spanish connection such as a Spanish victim or perpetrator. In the Boko Haram case, the state prosecutor used the fact there was a Spanish victim to bring a generic charge of crimes against humanity and terrorism, a court source said.

“This criminal act was committed against a background of terrorist activities that the jihadist organisation (Boko Haram) is carrying out systematically against people and communities,” the court document said as it listed deadly attacks carried out by Boko Haram in Africa’s most populous state since 2009.

Spain’s centre-right government in recent years has sought to limit the power of judges since arrest orders were causing diplomatic friction, for example last year when a judge went after former Chinese officials accused of genocide in Tibet.

As a result, the universal jurisdiction law was changed last year so that judges could investigate such cases only if there was a Spanish connection.

Luis Enrique: This is the best Real Madrid for years - and we were better

The Blaugrana coach says his team's Liga success is all the more impressive because it came despite the pressure of Carlo Ancelotti's quality side.
Luis Enrique: This is the best Real Madrid for years - and we were better

Luis Enrique says Barcelona's Liga success is even more impressive as it arrived in spite of the best Real Madrid team in recent years.

Barca celebrated their title triumph on Saturday, ending the league season two points clear of Madrid despite a 2-2 draw at home to Deportivo La Coruna on the final day.

While his team may yet add the Champions League and Copa del Rey titles to their collection, Luis Enrique says the domestic crown is particularly special.

"It is the trophy that demonstrates what we have done during the whole season," he said.
"One cannot win a league without being the most consistent - in our case, with great numbers and showing a great level during the whole year.

According to goal.com "Obviously there have been good and bad moments - it can't be any other way - but you can't say it's been a normal season when you win the league.

"We have had a really good season, even better when you think that this has been the best Real Madrid of the last few years, and they have fought for the league until the penultimate week, always making things difficult for us.

"And that's maybe why we value it even more."
Barca still have two matches to go to finish the campaign, with the Copa final against Athletic Bilbao on May 30 to be followed by the Champions League showdown with Juventus on June 6.

A second treble at Camp Nou is on the cards, but Luis Enrique understands the difficulty of the challenges that lie ahead.

"For sure, we have the same feeling that Athletic and Juventus players have," he said.
"The reality is that they are going to be two really difficult matches in which the supporters are going to be really important.

"And we are going to try to conquer two more titles for the club. Two more titles for the players and the supporters, and that's the goal.

"But we can't forget that this [the treble] is something the club has only managed once in all its history, meaning that this is a difficult task to achieve."

Air France flight over Africa had near miss with volcano, investigators say

File photo: An Air France Boeing 777 aircraft takes off at the Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport on August 18, 2014.

Plane has near miss with volcano

(CNN)An Air France passenger jet had a near miss with an active volcano in Africa earlier this month, according to French aviation authorities who are investigating the incident.

Air France Flight 953, a Boeing 777 with 37 people aboard, was on a short evening journey from Equatorial Guinea to Cameroon on May 2 when it steered off its planned route to avoid thunderstorms.

As the aircraft turned back toward its destination, the city of Douala in Cameroon, it got too close to Mount Cameroon, the highest mountain in the region whose volcano is still active, said the BEA, France's air accident investigation agency.

The "pull up" alarm started sounding and the pilots responded by ascending from 9,000 feet to 13,000 feet, the BEA said. The alarm stopped and the flight went on to land in Douala, it added.
In a list of open investigations, the agency described the close shave as "a serious incident" that involved "controlled flight into or toward terrain."
Passengers unaware of incident

Air France said Flight 953's pilots responded "immediately" to the alarm from the ground proximity warning system "by applying the appropriate procedure." It said its pilots "receive regular training in this type of maneuver."

An Air France official told CNN affiliate BFMTV that the passengers were unaware of the incident at the time.

The airline said in a statement that it is conducting its own internal investigation and has also given more information to the crew about "the specifics of the land around Douala."

The crew members are receiving educational, managerial and medical support, it added.
Flight 953 had departed from Malabo, which is the capital of Equatorial Guinea and is situated on Bioko Island, off the western coast of Africa.  cnn.com
