Two armed
robbers were crushed to death Wednesday on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos
while robbing motorists.
A
motorist said the gang members, numbering over eight, struck around 1:30pm.
The
motorist said: “The robbery gang members drove against traffic. They were in
four motorbikes.
We
noticed they were heading towards Lagos Island direction. But suddenly, along
Adekunle axis, they stopped and barricaded the road with their motorbikes. They
started robbing motorists.”
Many
commuters were dispossessed of their valuables in the operation which lasted
over 30 minutes.
The
operation abruptly came to an end after the owner of a wine coloured Toyota
Carena car, speeding, rammed into two of the robbers, crushing them instantly
to death.
An eye
witness said: “The driver who killed the driver was a uniformed personnel. They
two robbers chased him because he refused to stop after sighting them. As they
pursued him, he suddenly reversed and crushed two of them to death.
By this
time, a team of Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Nigeria Police Force and Lagos
State Transport Management Authority LASTMA, stormed to the scene.
The
bloody bodies of the robbers were removed. By then their other members had fled
the scene.”
